Advanced ComfyUI users can load a custom workflow exported in API format. Tune the prompt, model, sampler, anything. BioniX won’t fight you.

Common Questions

Does this cost me extra?

Not for the BioniX side. AI Border Fill is built into the app at no extra charge. If you pick a local provider (ComfyUI or SD WebUI/Forge), you pay nothing at all — the AI runs on your own GPU. If you pick a cloud provider, you pay the provider directly: typically a fraction of a cent per image with Runware, up to about $0.12 with OpenAI’s top model.

Do I need a fancy GPU?

Only for local providers. ComfyUI and SD WebUI/Forge want an NVIDIA card with at least 6 GB of VRAM. If you don’t have one, just point BioniX at a cloud provider and it’ll work on any laptop — even integrated graphics.

Are my wallpapers uploaded somewhere?

With local providers: no. Everything stays on your machine. With cloud providers: yes, the image is sent to the provider’s servers for processing. BioniX shows a one-time privacy notice the first time you select a cloud provider, so you can opt out before anything leaves your computer.

How long does generation take?

Cloud providers: 5 to 30 seconds per image, on average. Local providers depend on your GPU — from about 30 seconds on an RTX 4090 to 3–4 minutes on an RTX 3060. Results are cached, so you only wait once per wallpaper per resolution.

What if the AI gets it wrong?

You’ll see the result before it’s saved. If it’s off, just hit Regenerate for a different output, or fall back to a traditional fit mode for that wallpaper. The cache is editable too — delete an entry to force a re-render.

Does it work for ultrawide or 4K monitors?

Yes. Most AI models cap out at 1024×1024 or 1536×1536. BioniX generates at the model’s maximum, then high-quality Lanczos-upscales to your actual monitor resolution. The full-resolution version is what gets cached.

Will this drain my battery?

Generation runs in the AI provider, not in BioniX. So if you’re on a cloud provider, BioniX uses essentially no extra power — it’s a network request. If you’re on a local provider, your GPU does the work, which can be heavy on battery. There’s a setting to disable AI on battery automatically.

Why did you build this?

Because the “stretch / crop / letterbox” choice has been the same for 30 years and all three answers are bad. AI finally made a fourth option possible, and nobody else had shipped it. BioniX has been quietly innovating in this space since 2000, and this felt like the natural next step.
